Chives are beautiful, edible, and low maintenance. They’re also hardy perennials, and one of the first plants to break ground in late winter.
Pollinators love the showy lavender/pink flowers. And who doesn’t love attracting butterflies to their garden? Deer and rabbits won’t touch it and chives are also known to repel Japanese beetles! One of the easiest plants to grow and great for beginners, you just can’t go wrong with chives. A relative of onions, they have a mild flavor and are great for use on omelets, salads, pizza, baked potatoes, sautéed vegetables and so much more. The flowers are edible AND make great cut flowers. Grow them in pots or the garden, they are so versatile you can put them anywhere with sunlight and good drainage.
